Sphinx of Giza

Sphinx is a statue of a mythical creature the body of a lion and a human head was carved from limestone, it is likely that it was originally covered with a layer of plaster and painted, and the effects of the original colors still be seen near one ear

Located on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt, and is also the Sphinx guardian of the plateau. It is the oldest known large sculptures, a length of about 73.5 meters, including 15 meters along the front-legs, and currently 18:00, and its highest elevation above the ground about 20 meters to the top of the head. Believed that the ancient Egyptians built in the reign of the pharaoh Khafre (2558-2532 BC), builder of the second pyramid at Giza

The head of the Sphinx

It is believed that the Sphinx was a quarry before King Khafre think of sculpture in the form of a statue, and seen this statue to the east, so it may have changed the original actors in the last  century to the consensus view of the Sphinx
